This was my first time GDC. Yee-Haw!
I stayed at StartupHouse. It was a cool place to stay and cheap!
I've been a teacher in my home country these days. My client's holding a workshop for their own employees. We have the same lesson on each day of the week and different teachers for each day. I'm "miss Thursday".
We teach them how to use some particular software for their work effectively.
I had no experience of teaching but I'm kinda good at management so I thought that would be easy peasy. But I was wrong.
"Kids are like pancakes. First one is always a throwaway." - Howard Wolowitz from The Big Bang Theory
"We are taught right now that we are living in a world of constant and increasing polarity. It's so black and white, so us and them, so right and wrong. There is no middle, there is no gray, just polarity."
" I think the opposite of polarity is duality. Duality is a state of having two parts, but not in diametrical opposition, in simultaneous existence. "
Contradiction is like, the twisted part of the Möbius strip made with a piece of paper.
You can displace the half-twist but you never can get rid of it from the strip.
Homofobia, racism, lookism, obesity, animal rights, food waste, GMO, environments, hanger, disease, etc etc.. All those problems line up on the strip.
"If you have a crisis in your life, you'll notice something. It won't be your Twitter followers who come to sit with you. It won't be your Facebook friends who help you turn it round."
"we've traded stuff for connections, and the result is we are one of the loneliest societies there has ever been."
"we've been singing war songs about addicts. I think all along we should have been singing love songs to them, because the opposite of addiction is not sobriety. The opposite of addiction is connection."
"We need every form of human intelligence on the planetworking together to tackle the challenges that we face as a society. We can't afford to waste a brain."
North Star = Your goal = User's magic moment
Not exactly he said and not exactly he meant, tho.
I really wonder why people don't see this simple truth in lots of projects.
"You don't seem to learning how to be happy and healthy a priority in our schools. It's separated from schools, and for some kids, it doesn't exist at all."
"Hackers are innovators. Hackers are people who challenge and change the systems to make them work differently, to make them work better. It's just how they think. It's s mindset."
"So whether it's Steve Jobs, Mark Zuckerberg or Shane McConkey, having the hacker mindset can change the world. "
"If you ask me what do I want to be when I grow up, I'll always know that I want to be happy."
I've been kinda depressed since a little before I came back from LA.
But his presentation saved me a little bit.
"My deepest truth allowed me to accept who I am. Will you?"
This woman says their suicide rate is nine times higher than that of the general population.
I don't know what happened on them. Or maybe nothing particularly happened but, every time society says/shows (without thinking) "this is normal", "this is what everybody wants", "this is what people expect you to be", the difference does hurt, and make them feel pressured. But that happens when you live your truth. In any case.
I'm a woman and I'm happy with who I am. Still it's impossible to stay away from society. I wish the society will be gentle and kind for every people.
It was a hot Sunday.
I was on my way my friend's place. He is leaving LA so people were coming to say goodbye.
I had a bottle of sparkling wine and a sparkling lemonade (I don't drink alcohol but I want sparkling something, too!).
I took an Uber but I didn't know it would be a long trip, yet...
I visited San Francisco for a week.
I couldn't decide how to get there until the last minute... In the end, I booked both train and airplane. I mean, I went to SF by train, and came back to LA by airplane.
